George Home from Hospital

Convalescent George

George came home from animal hospital today. All the vets, nurses and admin staff fell in love with him, and said he was an exemplary patient. He has to take it very easy for two weeks (lying on the sofa, with Susan peeling grapes for him), but then he should be much better than he was.

Thank you everyone who sent him love, good wishes and prayers: it’s great to have him home.

Now Susan and I are recovering from the surgery that was done on our wallets! Thank God for Pet Plan!!

The Making of the Arduino

There’s a really interesting article by David Kushner, in the latest IEEE journal, on the history of the Arduino, including the fact that it got it’s name from a little-known 11th century Italian king, Arduin. What’s the connection? Well, in the town where he ruled there’s a bar named after the king, and that’s where the devlopers of the Arduino hang out. It’s a moot point whether it’s named after the king or after the bar!

Wow! I’m a student at Stanford University!

I have just joined an advanced course at Stanford University!  How cool am I?  Well, I guess we won’t know until the end of the course, when we see how I do.

Machine Learning is part of the Stanford Engineering Everywhere program, which offers “some of its most popular engineering classes free of charge to students and educators around the world.”

Cool.  Now to see if I at least understand the introductory class …

My first ever personal blog

It’s the day after the Royal Wedding.  I didn’t expect to enjoy it, but I did.  Let’s face it, I didn’t expect to watch it, but I did.

And today I’m feeling a bit flat!

So I set my home page up to be a blog.  In the fullness of time I’ll find more interesting things to say!
